da fezbet: Victor Wanyama has been urged to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the coming summer transfer window because of the “humiliation” he has suffered in north London, per Goal.
What’s the word?
da gbg bet: Wanyama has been left out of Spurs’ Champions League squad, while he has played just once under the management of Jose Mourinho.
That game came in the European dead rubber against Bayern Munich, amounting to nine minutes in a 3-1 defeat.
And the chairman of Kenyan club Kakamega Homeboyz, Cleophas Shimanyula, believes that Wanyama is suffering unduly in north London.
He said: “He doesn’t deserve the treatment he is getting now at Spurs.
“Clearly, [Wanyama] has helped Spurs and was one of the key players when they reached Champions League final last season and the kind of humiliation he is going through now is not acceptable.
“It is time for [Wanyama] to make up a sober decision but if you ask me, I will tell him to move to another club, the way [Mourinho] is talking means he doesn’t have a future at the club.”
Just doesn’t fit
Spurs have reasons for this treatment of Wanyama.
The Kenya international was hardly used under Mauricio Pochettino, either, making just four starts in the Premier League and four in the Champions League.
He has struggled to establish himself at the club since his fitness issues – he has battled knee injuries throughout his career – and cannot be trusted to stay fit.
A true test for any Spurs fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?
Indeed, Mourinho has not often utilised a defensive midfielder at Spurs, with Eric Dier failing to complete a Premier League game since December 15th, in the 2-1 win over Wolves.
Wanyama, unfortunately, has been the victim of a confluence of factors; Mourinho’s playing style doesn’t fit him, while his injuries mean that he is unlikely to be properly trusted in a starting XI.
This isn’t mistreatment; it is merely bad luck.
Meanwhile, one man is clearly Spurs’ Player of the Season!
