Nuhiu thought he had put the Owls ahead in the first half, but his header was ruled out for offside. After that, goals from Forest new boys Lewis Grabban and Joao Carvalho put the home side into a comfortable lead.
With Nuhiu, who has been at the club since 2013, upfront on his own Wednesday lacked any attacking threat and barely created a chance until experienced striker Steven Fletcher was introduced to offer the 29-year-old some support.
