da betobet: According to the Daily Record, Cristiano Ronaldo has told Real Madrid that he wants to leave the Bernabeu at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, which has attracted his former club Manchester United.
What’s the story?
da mrbet: Talk of Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid has not come out of the blue, with the Portuguese strongly linked with a move away from Spain last summer due to a tax dispute.
The 32-year-old ultimately remained at the Bernabeu, but his performances, particularly in the league, have been questioned this season.
The forward has only managed four La Liga goals this term, and his Real Madrid side are already 14 points behind Barcelona after 17 games of the campaign.
According to the Daily Record, Ronaldo has asked Real Madrid to set his price at £89m, despite the fact that the Portuguese has an £887m buy-out clause in his current deal.
Should United move for their former hero?
Ronaldo’s name is still sung in the stands at Old Trafford. He scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for Man United before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.
A quite remarkable career at the Bernabeu has seen the 32-year-old register 422 goals in 416 appearances for Los Blancos – helping them win two Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns during his time with the Spanish giants.
Ronaldo has scored 16 times in all competitions this season, but just four of those have been in the league, and there is no question that his performances have dropped off this term.
The majority of Man United supporters would be desperate for Ronaldo to return, but £89m is a lot of money for a player entering the latter stages of his career.
A price in the region of £50m might well convince Man United to take their former hero for a couple of seasons due to the revenue that the deal would create.
There are plenty of reasons why the deal would not make sense, but it would be some story if Ronaldo finished his career back where it really started.
