da bet esporte: Despite scoring on the opening weekend of the season, Jack Harrison’s 2019/20 season started in dismal fashion.
He was made the perennial scapegoat at Elland Road, taking criticism from supporters on more than one occasion.
The Manchester City loanee was hounded mercilessly on social media for his performances, something that must have led to a considerable lack of confidence.
This was a player that Leeds brought in over Ryan Kent last summer. Marcelo Bielsa’s faith in the player supposedly had an influence as the Whites turned their attention in the transfer market to Eddie Nketiah instead.
A lack of goal contributions in his first eight games must have had them wondering why on earth they changed their stance.
However, Harrison’s next 11 outings have produced some rather impressive numbers, demonstrating why Bielsa rates him so highly and why their transfer gamble last summer has started to pay off.
Speaking about the player, Angus Kinnear said: “Marcelo believes Jack can take another step up this year.” Reflecting upon that, he couldn’t have been more right.
Via WhoScored, the enigmatic winger contributed to just one goal in the opening months of the season.
His end product was severely lacking and the fact he’d only completed one accurate cross from 31 attempts was incredibly damning.
But since then, he’s turned the corner in tremendous fashion. He’s scored three goals and clinched four assists in his last nine games.
The catalyst for the 22-year-old appeared to be against Charlton. He broke a run of six matches without playing an accurate ball into the box and then two outings later, he was picking up an assist against Millwall.
That commenced the start of a run where he got three in three games. Harrison’s general threat has improved considerably, going from 11 key passes in eight fixtures to making 18 in his next 11.
That’s coupled with 21 successful dribbles as the loanee has run rampant down the left-hand side.
Leeds have an option to buy in his loan terms and they could well exercise that according to Phil Hay. He noted last week: “Bielsa is a big fan of his so I’d imagine that he’d look for the club to exercise it if they go up.”
Based on his recent form, they simply have to take up that offer. Harrison was offered a second chance at Leeds and he’s taken it with both hands. They’d be foolish to let him leave next season.
Meanwhile, check out how another Leeds player has turned the corner…
