da doce: Andre Ayew wouldn’t be the most eye-catching of signings for Leeds, particularly with speculation surrounding Jarrod Bowen being crushed, but he’d still offer qualities that suit the Whites.
da marjack bet: The forward was linked with Leeds last weekend and after previously playing under Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille, he’s someone the Argentine is familiar with and likes.
The Ghanaian forward has already spoken about the rigorous training sessions and sacrifices he had to make in Ligue 1, so what better player to bring in than someone who should be able to get up to speed with his demands quickly?
But things aren’t as simple as that, especially when Leeds have some of the most dynamic wingers in the division.
Jack Harrison has contributed to nine goals this season while Helder Costa, a man who was involved in 29 strikes over two years with Wolves at this level, is finding his feet too – he’s now scored two in his last four.
The 30-year-old Ayew has eight goals to his name in 2019/20, but it’s not from an attacking point of view that he could eclipse the aforementioned Costa at Elland Road.
Particularly from a defensive standpoint, the former Palace man is impressive and judging by the way Bielsa has favoured Harrison for his attitude to this part of the game, he could be a ready-made success.
The fact is that heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures, the forward had made 1.9 tackles per game, as well as achieving 1.1 clearances and 2.7 aerial duels won each outing.
This is mightily impressive for someone who usually plays in the final third of the pitch.
To put that into perspective, Ayew registers more tackles per game than both Luke Ayling and Ben White. He’d also be third in the squad for headers won each match.
Leeds aren’t forced into doing a huge amount of defensive work, conceding just 13 times this season, but it would bode well, especially as cover on the right-flank isn’t too forthcoming.
Virtually impossible: Can you name the year all of these Leeds flops arrived at Elland Road?
Costa made 1.4 tackles per game prior to the meeting with Fulham this afternoon but is poor in the air with just 0.4 duels won.
The Portuguese may be improving in attack, but when assessing Ayew’s all-round game, he looks like a player who could be perfect for their current head coach and the demands he asks for from his players.
