da winzada777: Liverpool continue to soar at the top of the Premier League.
da dobrowin: It is now 39 matches in a row unbeaten in the competition for the Reds, and they now lead the division by no less than 16 points – with a game in hand to boot. As Manchester City continue to stumble – they have not won more than three matches in a row so far this term in the top tier – Jurgen Klopp’s men have dispatched almost all that have come before them.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Whilst they have been in fantastic form so far this term, there will come a point when they will look to progress and add to their squad. They have been recently linked with a number of names, and one of those to have been mentioned in regards to a potential move to Anfield is Sandro Tonali.
It has been said (Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness) that the 19-year-old would cost €50m (£42.7m). Whilst that may look like a big fee on paper, his latest performance may convince the Reds to pay what would be – for them – a record price for a teenager – the previous highest fee for a player under 20 was the £10m they paid for Divock Origi.
The midfielder was in terrific form for Brescia against Cagliari this weekend. His side may have only been able to pick up a 2-2 draw but Tonali, despite giving away a penalty, was one of his team’s most impressive performers.
From an attacking point of view, he showed exactly how good he can be creating both of Ernesto Torregrossa’s strikes. That takes his tally up to four for the campaign in Italy’s top flight. On top of those two assists, he also manager another brace of key passes, taking his tally up to four for the day, whilst he also completed both dribbles he attempted and landed 50% of his crosses.
Defensively, too, he was a rock. He won eight out of the 10 ground duels he contested, whilst he also made five tackles – that was the joint-most of any player on the pitch.
Had it not been for that penalty situation, it would have been a faultless performance, but even with that blemish, he stood out. Liverpool do look settled at the moment, and it would be a hard midfield to break into, but Tonali’s all-round performance here means he remains one to look out for.
Meanwhile, our writers deliver their verdict on Liverpool’s interest in this 20-year-old…
