da wazamba: Liverpool should be interested in signing defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla, according to the defender’s former manager Fabiano Soares, per ESPN Brasil.
What’s he said?
da cassino: Carlos has played in all but one of the club’s La Liga games thus far this season, missing the clash with Alaves due to suspension.
Soares managed Carlos during his time at Estoril and he believes that he would fit in well at Anfield, with Liverpool currently leading the Premier League by a staggering 22 points.
El Desmarque, via Metro, claimed in December that the Reds were considering a summer move for the Brazilian, which would cost around £64m.
Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…
Soares, 53, said: “There are some Real Madrid defenders who are worse than him. At Barcelona, there’s a lot more space because they’re a team who need fast players.
“And he’s very fast. That is why Klopp should be keeping an eye on him.
“He is a dynamic, intense, fast player. Football nowadays, for the slow player the market isn’t so good.
“Players who are fast and strong and competitive and who have quality, the coaches will always look at them.”
No better than Matip
To compare Carlos’ stats with Joel Matip, who is currently Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partner, is to see a player who isn’t quite at the level of the current Liverpool man.
Matip averages 1.5 tackles per game in the Premier League, 1.5 interceptions, 0.9 fouls, 4.6 clearances, while he is dribbled past 0.9 times and averages a passing accuracy of 83.1%.
Carlos, by comparison, averages 1.3 tackles, 1 interception, 1.3 fouls, 5 clearances and is dribbled past 0.9 times. His passing accuracy is 82.3%.
Of course, this doesn’t speak to watching Carlos play but from a purely statistical point of view, one has to wonder if this move would be all that smart for the Reds.
After all, if he isn’t an upgrade on Matip, what’s the point?
Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson’s signing led to this man’s sacking!
